Professional Standards & Verification Policy
Last updated: June 2026
Mindful UK is committed to promoting high professional standards across our platform. This policy sets out the standards we expect of therapists and wellbeing professionals listed on Mindful UK, and explains our approach to verification.
1. Our Approach
Mindful UK operates as an introductory platform connecting clients with independent therapists. While we are not a regulator or accreditation body, we are committed to encouraging best practice and transparency among professionals listed on our platform.
We require all therapists to confirm they meet our minimum listing standards and to provide accurate profile information. Clients are encouraged to verify a therapist's credentials independently before engaging their services.
2. Minimum Listing Standards
To be listed on the Mindful UK platform, therapists are expected to:
- Hold relevant qualifications appropriate to the therapy modalities they offer (e.g. diploma, degree, postgraduate qualification).
- Maintain membership of a recognised UK professional body where applicable, such as BACP, UKCP, BPS, NMC, COSCA, or equivalent.
- Hold valid professional indemnity insurance at all times.
- Be legally entitled to practise in the United Kingdom.
- Comply with all relevant professional, ethical, and legal obligations.
- Provide accurate and truthful information in their platform profile.
3. Verification
Mindful UK encourages therapists to provide verifiable information, including their professional body membership number. Clients can verify membership directly with the relevant professional body.
Mindful UK does not independently verify the qualifications, insurance, or registration status of every therapist listed on the platform. Clients are responsible for carrying out their own due diligence before engaging a therapist.
To verify a therapist's professional registration, clients can check directly with:
- BACP Register: bacp.co.uk/search/Therapists
- UKCP Register: psychotherapy.org.uk/find-a-therapist
- BPS Directory: bps.org.uk/find-psychologist
- NMC Register: nmc.org.uk/registration/search-the-register
- GMC Register: gmc-uk.org
4. Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
Mindful UK encourages all therapists to commit to ongoing learning and professional development. This includes:
- Undertaking regular CPD activities in line with their professional body's requirements.
- Keeping up to date with developments in their field of practice.
- Participating in clinical supervision appropriate to their practice.
- Reflecting on and developing their clinical skills over time.
5. Ethical Practice
Mindful UK expects therapists to:
- Adhere to the ethical framework of their relevant professional body.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with clients.
- Respect client confidentiality in accordance with professional and legal obligations.
- Manage conflicts of interest appropriately.
- Only work within their areas of competence.
- Refer clients to other professionals when their needs exceed the therapist's scope of practice.
6. Insurance
All therapists are required to hold valid professional indemnity insurance that covers the services they offer. This protects both clients and therapists in the event of a claim.
Mindful UK strongly advises clients to confirm a therapist's insurance status before commencing any therapeutic relationship.
7. DBS Checks
Therapists working with children, young people, or vulnerable adults are expected to hold a current enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check. Mindful UK encourages therapists to disclose their DBS status on their profile where relevant.
8. Reporting Concerns
If you have concerns about a therapist's qualifications, conduct, or professional standards, you should:
- Contact the therapist's professional body or regulator directly.
- Contact Mindful UK at standards@mindful-uk.comif you believe a therapist's listing is inaccurate or misleading.
Mindful UK reserves the right to remove any therapist from the platform where credible concerns about professional standards are raised.
9. Policy Review
This policy is reviewed annually and updated as needed to reflect changes in professional standards, regulation, and best practice.
